Finally My First Post

Hello Everyone! I first must apologize for taking so long to post something. The internet in my apt. is only high-speed (lately it has had no speed at all). Also only one person can use it at a time. It’s quite a complicated process.

THE NC PIT STOP
The trip from Jacksonville to D.C. is 12 hours long. My family was extremely kind and allowed us to stay at their houses for two nights. The first night we went to Uncle Barry’s house. I had so much fun being around the family. I wish I could live there just to be closer to them (especially if the Texas Moffitts move there J). The next night we stayed at Uncle Dan and Aunt Dori’s house. Aunt Dori, thank you so much for the pedicure! My feet are looking good despite the blisters they’ve endured from walking in heels. Nevertheless, here are a few pics taken while enjoying my stay in NC…

The Girls...Kaley, Taylor and LeeAnn

Silly face picture with Mason. This boy is only 5 years old but is stronger than me. His nickname is "The Coconut Crusher".

Uncle Dan and Aunt Dori preparing the Chicken shish-kabobs.

Orlando enjoying "The Last Supper". This was the last real dinner we plan on having for the next 10 weeks, since we will be living off of breakfast burritos and ramen noodles. The dinner was fantastic! I can still taste the chicken now.

Thank you so much Uncle Barry, Unlce Dan (aka dandy dan), and Aunt Dori!

This post is a couple days old

(I made this one on the 27th. However, I have not have internet, so this post is from my blackberry.)

Hello Everyone

And again welcome to Danielle and Orlando’s blog. Now if you are reading this you are apart of a select few. You are the few, the brave, and those who have donated to our cause in some way. You could have given us money, emotional support, or even let us stay at your house. And for that we will be forever grateful, and I already know that above all other memories, we will remember the general kindness shown to us.
Now off to the highlights of the day. The plan was to leave at 6 and we left at 6:12. Why? Because I woke up at 6 and to Danielle knocking on my door. (Btw, 6:12 is not bad, considering I took a shower and grabbed some last minute things.) About 7 hours later we arrived at (Uncle) Mr. Barry Moffit’s house. From there it was pure fun and excitement with one of the most dynamic, down-to-earth, and selfless families I have every seen. At once I felt apart of the family, and between Wii Fitness, Soccer, and Hide-n-Seek only further shrunk the divide between stranger to friend. I am tired, and the evening has set upon me. Goodnight and Thanks.

Sincerely,
O

Orlando's Blog Team Entry

Orlando's Entry:

A semester ago, the thought of being in the nation’s capitol, as an intern, would have been met with an incredulous laugh. And even now, when I tell myself I am going to Washington (or Warshington, as John McCain calls it), I have that same laugh. However, even though I am still unconvinced that I will be spending 10 weeks at the headquarters of our nation, I still am planning out my weekends. And my excitement builds with each museum, restaurant, and memorial that I am able visit. In my search of places to go and people to see, I have started to notice a few similarities between Washington and my own state, Florida. Being that I am a Floridian I am use to a couple things, bad driving, blue hair, beaches, and beautiful bodies on those beaches. Now, those things won’t be found in Washington; however, what Washington does have is old people. Washington is the nation’s capitol, and it is filled with hundreds of politicians, who are pretty old and pretty gray. (Barock Obama and Nancy Pelosi are the exceptions.) While this is the case, Florida continues to be the retiree capitol of the world, and is filled hundreds (of thousands) of old people as well. Thus seeing them will give me a sense of home (so at least I won’t be home sick.) On top of that, another similarity exists. Washington and Florida can’t decide anything. Everyone witnessed the 2000 election, and everyone is witnessing Washington now. Thus, that similarity is quite stark. Lastly, and more seriously, both are rich in history. Florida is home to America’s oldest city, and its history is spotted with Indian, Spanish, and American involvement. As for Washington D.C. well…there is no need to explain the capitol’s history. Although, I poke fun at the similarities one important thing remains. Everyone, from all walks of life, from all parts of the country, should be able to identify with something in our capitol. If America is indeed a melting pot, then our capitol should be also. Thus, my anticipation regarding this adventure is not only based in wanting to experience an internship, but to experience the different subcultures that exist in America (and consequently its capitol.)

Welcome

Hello Everyone,

This is Orlando Pryor and Danielle Duncan's blog for their Washington D.C. internships. This blog will contain their experiences, thoughts, and opinions. Additionally, it will contain pictures and/or videos of places, people, and things in the Washington area. Although this initial post is very boring, expect the next blogs to be funny, witty, and charming (everything Danielle is, everything Orlando isn't.) The next post will immediately follow this one, and will be Orlando's entry to the Washington Center Blog Team. He did not get it, but it may be slightly entertaining and it adequately sums up our anticipation. (Side note: I wrote this without spell check. Enjoy the typos.)

Thanks
O & D
